From the moment we become pregnant and with each visit to the paediatrician, we constantly hear how no two children are alike. Despite this, in our day-to-day lives, we often end up treating each of our children the same without considering their characteristics and individual needs.
As parents, it is our job to make sure our children bring something unique to the family and that they feel unique themselves. Their special characters can help to enrich the team we form as a family.
Dedicating a few minutes each day to being alone with each of them will give children confidence and make them feel important within the family. Things like bath time, the moments before bedtime, or simply walking home from school with mum and/or dad can be important for building independence and reaffirming a child's contribution to the family. Going alone may be fast but going together gets you further.
